i watched the sequel today.
i really wish i didn't my friend talked me into it to quote my friend about 30 minuets into the movie "this movie is so bad! its just a bunch of sex and gore set to a bunch of really shitty music." MTE it was basically the original movie, but they removed all the charm, and replaced it with sex and BOOBS and gore. damn! there were alot of boobs.

i wrote i review of it for my blog.
Lost Boys 2: The Tribe Rated R for strong vampire violence and gore, language, sexuality and some drug use. 94 minutes of hell. My rating: -5 out of 10 “This movie is terrible, it’s just a bunch of sex and gore set to really shitty music.” –My friend Hannah about forty minutes into the movie. The Lost Boys: The Tribe (or The Tripe as some people call it) is basically just like the original Lost Boys, except they took out all the charm and replaced it with boobs and gore. To be fair, I was never going to like this movie for two reasons. Reason one: The Lost Boys is my favorite movie of all time and nothing can even hold a candle up to it. Reason two: the vampires surf. Not that surfing isn’t cool, because it is. It is just not something vampires should be doing. Sparkling is also cool, but not when vampires do it. Also it was a direct to DVD sequel, and as a rule sequels make after five years and/or with different actors tend to suck. Summery: The film centers around Chris and his younger sister whose “like almost eighteen” Nichole Emerson. Who are Star and Michael’s kids, or something, they don’t explain it. They move in next door to their wacky and very annoying aunt Jillian. The two go to a surfer party. At the party Nichole very stupidly accepts liquid some a man she just met, which turns out to be blood, and becomes a vampire. Chris joins up with Edger Frog to save his sister and defeat the evil surfing vampire gang. The head vampire is played by Kiefer Sutherland’s little brother. The vampires in this movie really do nothing but swear and rip out people innards while video taping it. In one scene one of the vampires rips out some guy’s spleen, to which the guy replied, “Dude! You ripped out my spleen man, not cool.” No, really, that is what he says. I’m not sure how I would react to getting my spleen ripped out, but I think it would be somewhat different than that. “I'm Edgar Frog, surfboard shaper and vampire hunter.” Edger now lives alone. His brother Alan was killed by a vampire, or is a vampire, it’s never really explained. Edger is now also a minister so he can make his own holy water. He filled out some forms online to get ordained. My father was recently or ordained and I can tell you it was a little more work than filling out some papers, but that is beside the point. The rest of the movie pretty much plays out just like the first one. My feelings: Nearly everything in this movie is terrible. The dialogue is laughable. The camera work is terrible. There are too many slow motion and fast motion shots. It has the shaky camera, which I hate. And lord, the acting. There is a reason I never knew Kiefer Sutherland had a brother before I watched this movie. And the reason is his acting sucks. It’s not just him though; nobody does a good job in this movie. The effects for the vamp faces are horrible and inconstant. The vamp faces look different from scene to scene, and none of them look as good as the original. The movie even changed the vampire lore from the first movie. In this movie the vampires turn to stone before exploding when staked. While the vampires in the original movie could fly these vampires seem to scoff at the very idea. The even made it so that a stake can be made out of anything, not just wood, by this logic they could have just used guns and made this movie much shorter. Fans of gore may like some of the more violent scenes. Some of the bloody graphics were pretty impressive. I’m in no way a fan of gore, so I couldn’t really appreciate this. You now may be asking yourself, did Zoë like anything in this movie? As a matter a fact some cool stuff did happen, but I wouldn’t really call it good. Some of the motorcycle stunts were pretty awesome. Besides that, the return of Edger Frog is the only reason to watch this disgrace to cinema. But even that is not a very good reason. Edger acts exactly like he did in the original movie, but he is twenty years older now and it’s not funny anymore. His badass Batman/Chuck Norris voice was funny when he was a teenager, but it lost its charm with age. However Edger gets some of the only good lines in the movie. The best being, “Build a man a fire, he's warm for a day. Light a man on fire, and he's warm for the rest of his life!” Which I believe is a quote from Terry Pratchett. Because the rest of lines where so bad, it took my friends and I at least two minutes before we realized that line was kind of funny. I also giggled a bit when Edger shows up and yells, “Who ordered the stake?” In conclusion I feel about this movie as Robert Ebert felt about North. "I hated this movie. Hated, hated, hated, hated, hated this movie. Hated it. Hated every simpering stupid vacant audience-insulting moment of it. Hated the sensibility that thought anyone would like it. Hated the implied insult to the audience by its belief that anyone would be entertained by it." If this was just some B-movie I don’t think I would have minded it so much. But to call it a sequel to The Lost Boys is an insult to fans of the original movie and everyone that worked on it. It wasn’t even so much a sequel as much as a blatant rip off of the original Lost Boys. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I am off to watch the original Lost Boys over and over until I get this monstrosity out of my system.

HAHAHA! Love that review, Drusilla! Pretty much exactly states how I feel about the Neverending Story sequels XD
As a fan of the original Lost Boys, I will make sure to steer clear of this one. |
